Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi जिन्हें Mahatma Gandhi के नाम से जाना जाता है, का जन्म 2 अक्टूबर 1869 को हुआ था।
वे एक भारतीय वकील, उपनिवेशवाद विरोधी राष्ट्रवादी और राजनीतिक नैतिकतावादी थे।
गांधीजी ने ब्रिटिश शासन से भारत की स्वतंत्रता के सफल अभियान का नेतृत्व करने के लिए अहिंसक प्रतिरोध का काम किया और दुनिया भर में नागरिक अधिकारों और स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन के लिए लोगों को प्रेरित किया।
दक्षिण अफ्रीका में 1914 में पहली बार उनके लिए सम्माननीय ‘महात्मा’ शब्द का उपयोग किया गया, जो अब दुनिया भर में उपयोग किया जाता है। आधुनिक भारत के निर्माण में उनके योगदान ने उन्हें “राष्ट्रपिता” की उपाधि दी।
